Recently, with the support of Carbon Newture, Wuxi Chunyu Environmental Protection Products Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Chunyu”) completed its organizational-level Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas inventory and further achieved organizational carbon neutrality in accordance with the latest international standard ISO 14068. The carbon neutrality certificate was issued by the authoritative third-party certification body SGS.
This marks another key milestone for Chunyu in building a full-chain green packaging solution, following the completion of carbon footprint calculation for its biodegradable carrier bags. Looking ahead, Chunyu will continue to deepen its presence in the sustainable packaging sector with more systematic data and greater transparency, striving to become the preferred green packaging partner trusted by downstream brands.
Reducing Emissions at the Source: A Green Backbone for Downstream Supply Chains
Founded in 2013, Wuxi Chunyu Environmental Protection Products Co., Ltd. is a modern enterprise integrating R&D, manufacturing, and sales, dedicated to providing environmentally friendly packaging solutions for global brands. Guided by global sustainability principles and a commitment to low-carbon innovation, the company is anchored by its R&D and manufacturing base in Wuxi and supported by a marketing center in Shanghai. Chunyu focuses on the development of polymer-based biodegradable materials and offers comprehensive green packaging solutions, including biodegradable materials, post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastics, and paper packaging, helping clients enhance their ESG performance and brand value.
Chunyu’s Journey Toward Sustainability
To further strengthen its green competitiveness, Chunyu carried out rigorous accounting of its organizational Scope 1 (direct) and Scope 2 (indirect) emissions and achieved organizational carbon neutrality.
As an upstream packaging manufacturer, Chunyu’s Scope 1 and 2 emissions constitute a core component of its downstream brand customers’ Scope 3 emissions, specifically Category 1: Purchased Goods and Services. This means that every gram of carbon reduced in Chunyu’s production processes directly contributes to lowering the overall supply chain carbon footprint of its customers.
By achieving organizational carbon neutrality, Chunyu now provides its clients with a dual guarantee for supply chain decarbonization: compliant and traceable data as a solid foundation, and a long-term strategic commitment to driving low-carbon transformation.
Reducing emissions at the source: Accelerating supply chain carbon neutrality
Against the backdrop of international green trade barriers such as the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), as well as increasingly stringent supply chain decarbonization requirements, brand owners urgently need compliant, authoritative, and transparent sources of carbon emissions data.
By strengthening its own emission reduction efforts and achieving organizational carbon neutrality, Chunyu helps its customers reduce the “packaging” portion of their product carbon footprints. This provides immediately available and verifiable emission reductions for customers’ supply chain decarbonization targets, enabling them to secure low-carbon advantages at the procurement stage and enhance their competitive positioning.
Embedding Low-Carbon DNA into Every Stage of Production
Achieving organizational carbon neutrality is not merely the acquisition of a certificate; it is a powerful declaration of Chunyu’s commitment to deepening its sustainable packaging strategy. It extends the low-carbon concept from “individual products” to “overall operations,” ensuring that every link in the production process meets long-term sustainability requirements and positioning Chunyu as a stable and reliable green backbone for brand customers.
Technological breakthroughs: Creating “Low-Carbon + High-Performance” green packaging solutions
The packaging industry plays a pivotal role in China’s economy and in the supply chains of numerous sectors, including food and beverage, pharmaceuticals, consumer goods, and manufacturing. As of 2023, more than 10,000 packaging enterprises above designated size operated in China, generating nearly RMB 1.2 trillion in total revenue.
With rising global environmental awareness and the advancement of sustainable development policies, green packaging has become a major trend. According to Deloitte’s report China Packaging Industry Trend Insights: Green, Innovation, Digitalization, and Collaboration, among 50 packaging companies serving downstream sectors such as food, beverages, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, apparel, and electronics, 80% of respondents indicated that they had set clear environmental goals and were actively advancing them. Measures such as material lightweighting, application of biodegradable materials, and promotion of recycling technologies are helping companies reduce resource consumption while achieving economic benefits1.
As a modern enterprise dedicated to sustainable packaging solutions, Chunyu is a pioneer of the “green packaging” trend. Through materials innovation and process integration, the company supports global brands in achieving their sustainability goals. Leveraging its strong R&D capabilities and adhering to the principle of “technology-driven decarbonization,” Chunyu has developed two core eco-friendly packaging material solutions for film and bag products: biodegradable materials and recycled plastics, complemented by one-stop packaging services.
Biodegradable solutions
Based on fully biodegradable PLA+PBAT materials, Chunyu has developed a high-performance green packaging portfolio. PLA+PBAT features inherent carbon sequestration properties and significantly reduces reliance on fossil resources. In compliance with the European EN 13432 standard, the material can fully degrade into water and carbon dioxide within 180 days under industrial composting conditions, returning to nature.
This solution not only addresses the issue of “white pollution” from single-use packaging at the source, but also overcomes the performance limitations of traditional biodegradable materials, offering high strength, excellent transparency, and outstanding heat resistance, thus delivering a “l(fā)ow-carbon + high-quality” packaging option.
Recycled and Recyclable Solutions
Chunyu’s recycled and recyclable solution adopts innovative “film-to-film” recycling technology. Through a low-temperature recycling process, waste plastic films are converted into PCR pellets and then remanufactured into film packaging products. Its PCR materials are certified under the Global Recycled Standard (GRS), with traceability ensured through Transaction Certificates (TCs).
Compared with virgin plastics, PCR materials significantly reduce dependence on fossil resources and lower carbon emissions during production. According to Chunyu’s data, producing one ton of recycled plastic can reduce emissions by 0.977 tCO? compared with virgin plastic.
Film-to-film recycling technology
Beyond its core film and bag products, Chunyu has extended its “technology-driven decarbonization” concept to paper packaging, customized solutions, and apparel accessories, striving to deliver truly one-stop low-carbon packaging solutions that cover everything from inner to outer packaging and from primary materials to auxiliaries.
With strong green innovation capabilities and compliance with international standards, Chunyu has earned the long-term trust of many industry-leading brands across consumer electronics, fashion, and retail. It has established deep partnerships with globally renowned brands such as MUJI, Macron, Thermos, Walmart, Mettler Toledo, and NEXT, jointly exploring new possibilities for sustainable packaging and advancing the green transformation of global supply chains.
Conclusion
Packaging has long gone beyond its basic function of protecting products to become an extension of brand image and a direct expression of sustainability values. In the context of global carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals, low-carbon packaging has become one of the most direct ways for brands to communicate their green commitments to consumers.
From carbon footprint accounting for individual products to achieving organizational carbon neutrality, Chunyu has taken solid and steady steps along the path of green packaging development, demonstrating its long-term commitment to sustainable development through concrete actions. Going forward, Chunyu will continue to strengthen its transparent carbon data foundation, adhere to the principle of “technology-driven decarbonization,” and continuously innovate in materials and technologies, providing green supply chain support for brand customers committed to global green transformation and jointly creating a lower-carbon, more responsible future.
